VCS Community Helps with Irene Disaster Relief

Anyone who walked in to the lunch room recently couldn’t help but notice the gargantuan pile of donated clothing, food, games, and even a giant stuffed pony! Responding to an email request from the school, the entire VCS community purged closets and drawers to help our fellow Vermonters who lost so much in the Irene flooding. I have to admit, I got a little teary one morning when I arrived to a pile of bags so big that I could not get into my office. Thank you to everybody who contributed to the effort!

Last Tuesday, a hardy and eager group of students volunteered their time to load the donations into one of the new school buses and deliver them to the Salvation Army in Burlington. The bus was so full that we needed the second bus to transport the students for unloading! The Salvation Army will be delivering our donations to a community in need before the end of the week.
