Forrest Hamilton Takes First Place at 3K Race and Sets New Course Record

On Wednesday, September 14, the Vermont Commons School cross-country team participated in a 3K race at the Brown’s River Middle School Meet. In the boys’ race, Forrest Hamilton from Shelburne came in first with a time of 11:31. In addition, he set a new course record.

Hayden Kjelleren from Charlotte gave a great effort, coming in at 14:06. Nathan Gamble from Shelburne followed with a time of 14:44, and Alex Duchac from Charlotte and Ben Maksym from Grand Isle came in at 15:16 and 17:17, respectively. The boys’ team came in sixth place overall.

The Flying Turtles who participated were Haley Harder of Shelburne (8th grade), Sophia Webb of Hinesburg (8th grade), Katharina Thomas of Shelburne (8th grade), Lauren Howe of East Fairfield (8th grade), Forrest Hamilton of Shelburne (8th grade), Hayden Kjelleren of Charlotte (8th grade), Nathan Gamble of Shelburne (8th grade) Alex Duchac of Charlotte (7th grade) and Ben Maksym of Grand Isle (8th grade). All of the runners showed up to the race with energy and enthusiasm!

In the girls’ race, Haley Harder and Sophia Webb were among the top ten finishers. Haley came in sixth with a time of 14:50, and Sophia came in seventh with a time of 14:44. Katharina Thomas and Lauren Howe finished strong, with times of 18:48 and 20:27, respectively.
