Fine Arts

The Visual Arts curriculum at Vermont Commons School is based on direct studio experience. In this program, students develop a visual grammar that inspires creative confidence and forms a template for a meaningful relationship with the arts. Instruction in the studio involves using a variety of media and materials. Students explore the fundamentals of perceptual and analytical drawing, traditionaloil painting, mixed media, photography, and printmaking.

Through the Music curriculum at Vermont Commons students of all skill levels gain a deeper understanding of music appreciation, are grounded in the technical and conceptual aspects of music theory, and immerse themselves in production and technique.  Students have the option of joining the school’s Jazz Band, which rehearses before and after school and performs at school and local venues, including the storied BurlingtonDiscover Jazz Festival.  Vermont Commons student musicians have successfully auditioned for district jazz festivals.

Our current Electives program also includes instruction in Filmmaking, based out of our burgeoning Media Lab.  Original concepts that involve attentive, critical thinking are the basis for every project.
