Volleyball

Volleyball season begins in late summer with optional practices in late August and builds momentum into the fall. Practices are held on campus in the south building gym (new in 2022).

The Vermont Commons School Girls Volleyball Team won the Vermont State Volleyball Championships in 2008, 2009, 2010, and 2012 led by coaches Peter Goff, Ben Patrick, and Bill Orleans.

All of our teams emphasize sportsmanship, commitment, excellence, and inclusion. We do not have “cuts,” but team members will be asked to maintain their commitment to the team and uphold the ideals of sportsmanship and fair play. Our team sports typically practice 5-10 hours per week outside of regular school hours.

VCS has taken the state-wide lead in organizing volleyball and we are happy to report that, after a series of meetings with the Vermont Principal’s Association, volleyball has been granted varsity status by the state of Vermont, making it the the 50th state officially to recognize High School Volleyball.  Click here for the history of volleyball at Vermont Commons School.
