Seniors Journey onto Lake Champlain

The senior class recently had the privilege of spending a gorgeous fall morning out on the Marcelle Melosira, UVM’s new Lake Champlain research vessel. Over the course of two hours, staff from the UVM Watershed Alliance as well as undergraduates studying environmental sciences, taught us about the most pressing challenges facing Lake Champlain. In addition, students were exposed to some water quality sampling techniques, such as the use of a secchi disk and the capture and identification of phyto- and zooplankton. It was an incredible experience that we hope to repeat with other grades in the future.

Scholarship. Community. Global Responsibility.

Students emerge from their time at Vermont Commons School intrinsically motivated to seek out their role for improving the world, with the skills and competencies to do so.
