Interests and Hobbies
My kids, gardening, knitting, reading, cooking for family and friends, biking, hiking with my dog Keep.
I grew up in Connecticut the fourth of four children and the only girl. We lived in the country in a wonderful old farmhouse where I hiked and rode bikes and stole apples from the many orchards.
I moved to Vermont to go to Middlebury College where I majored in Northern Studies, the environmental and sociological study of the polar north and south. That led me to working as a foreign observer and resident scientist on a Korean fishing boat in the Bering Sea. While on board the ship, I read a newsletter from the New Alchemy Institute on Cape Cod offering a semester of studying biological agriculture (read organic) and appropriate technology where I then applied for and attended for a 6 month stint.
I have worked as a ticket seller at the old Nickelodeon in Burlington, as interim director of the Green Mountain Audubon Nature Center, and as blood drawer at Fletcher Allen (then MCHV). The last introduced me to the world of medicine as did my soon to be husband who was in Med School at UVM. I went to nursing school, became an ICU nurse, then a hospice nurse, had my 3 incredible children (all VCS alums) and stayed home with them for some of the most enjoyable years of my life, became Director of Hospice of the North Country, then became involved with the VCS Board of Trustees where I served for 5 years until stepping down to take this position!!! Everything leads to everything else…
I am so passionate about this school, the people who inhabit it and who share their lives, their knowledge, their wisdom, and their laughter with our kids. I couldn’t be happier than to be working at a job where I get to help insure this school is here for generations.
